Working Groups

The Working Groups were established to create a space where volunteers and staff could meet together to plan and develop services provided by Oblong

The working groups fed in to the Oblong Assembly

The groups are:

IT Working Group – what we do
Looking after Oblong’s computers, including:

  • Maintaining IT equipment
  • Training users
  • Adding/editing users to the system
  • Fundraising for equipment
  • Helping with printers and photocopier
  • Photocopier usage
  • Helping user with the software

Member Projects Working Group – what we do
Responsible for supporting the community groups that use Oblong, including:

  • Updating the members’ section of the website
  • Giving funding advice to groups
  • Giving advice to groups to help them set up and manage their projects
  • Helping groups to network with each other
  • Confidence building with groups
  • Nurturing and developing peoples’ ideas

Centre Co-ordination Working Group - What we do
Responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the centre, including:

  • Opening up/closing up
  • Tidying up
  • Post and phone
  • Taking money for the till use
  • Room bookings
  • Equipment hire
  • Update database
  • Administer email
  • Purchasing tea/coffee
  • Recruiting and inducting volunteers and users
  • Joining new members
  • Developing policies and procedures
  • Developing support and training for volunteers
  • Ensuring that records of volunteers are kept up to date
  • Developing volunteer roles

Communications Working Group – What we do
Responsible for:

  • Maintaining the Oblong and Design Collective websites
  • External communication including advertising and promotion for Oblong
  • E-mailing information to members
  • Internal communication to volunteers, member projects, centre users and members. Examples include day to day communication, the newsletter, posters up on the walls and the ‘interactive room’ downstairs
